Our first Golden Plover and Redstart of the Autumn, an increase of Whinchats and 6 Common Swifts south-west

More warblers today plus 10 Crossbills, 4 Wheatears and 3 Whinchats.

There were 50 plus warblers in the area, mainly Willow and Lesser Whitethroats, our first Whinchats of the Autumn and 15 Yellow Wagtails.

16th

A single roving flock of birds in the Hope Point/Ship House area contained 45 Long-tailed Tits, 40 Willow Warblers, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Reed Warblers, a Whitethroat, a Garden Warbler and this Booted Warbler, present from 0735 to 0815 and then lost in the Hope Point bushes.

15th

A few more birds today with 17 Whitethroats, 6 Lesser Whitethroats, 3 Willow Warblers and 2 Chiffchaffs. Also fly overs of 3 Swifts, 1 Tree Pipit, 1 Yellow Wagtail

and 2 Crossbills.

Later in afternoon there were 112 Mediterranean Gulls at the Undercliffe

12th

A seawatch from 08.00-09.00 produced 56 Gannets, 12 'Commic' , 15 Common and 7 Sandwich Terns, a Balearic Shearwater and a Grey Plover all moving downchannel.

11th

Migrants thin on the ground again with only 5 Willow Warblers and 12 Whitethroats.

10th

During the morning, at sea,there was a steady stream of terns and a count from

10:00 -10:15 produced 150 'Commics' and 40 Sandwich Terns.

9th

Very few migrants apart from 4 Willow Warblers, 8 Whitethroats, 2 Lesser Whitethroats and a Grasshopper Warbler.

8th

Only birds of note today were 4 Crossbills that flew north.

7th

After the overnight storm much was expected but we were disappointed with only 9 Willow Warblers, 2 Whitethroats, 3 Lesser Whitethroats and a Golden Bishop amongst the Linnets on the Freedown.

6th

A very nice sunny day produced 9 Willow Warblers, 3 Whitethroats and singles of Lesser Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler and Grasshopper Warbler -- the latter two being firsts for the year.

Many butterfies around area best of which were Small Blues and the first Painted Lady.

In the afternoon there were 24 Meditteranean Gulls of all ages on the beach at Kingsdown.

5th

Only 10 or so Willow Warblers left around area after yesterdays 'fall'

Resident Little Owl making lots of noise in the Farm today.

 

4th

With the overnight rain there was a 'fall' of migrants around the farm of 5 Lesser Whitethroats, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 34 Willow Warblers and, new for the year, a very showy Wood Warbler. Also 46 Common Swifts moved SW.

3rd

A Little Gull and up to 100 terns, mainly Sandwich, feeding offshore.

2nd

Still no birds around the area but good numbers of Common and Sandwich Terns

feeding in the bay, sadly saw only three juvenile Kittiwakes. I wonder how many have been fledged on the cliffs this year.
