August Total number of species for the year 153 30th Most of yesterday's birds had left and with the strong northerly wind nothing was showing itself, however in the wood we did hear a Common Treecreeper,a good bird for us. JRC 29th Nigel, Brendan, Phil, Tony and myself had less birds than yesterday although there were still good numbers of migrants, notably 5 Reed Warblers, 27 Whitethroats, 18 Lesser Whitethroats, 4 Blackcaps, 17 Chiffchaffs, 8 Willow Warblers, 6 Whinchats, a Wheatear, 2 Redstarts and 2 each of Pied and Spotted Flycatchers. There were also up to 450 House Martins and 250 Swallows feeding along the cliff-top. JRC 28th It was almost like oldtimes with Nigel, Steve Clinch, Phil, Tony, Brendan and myself out and best of all lots of birds. The light NW breeze had brought in many migrants. Warblers included 11 Reed Warblers, 1 Sedge Warbler, 2 Grasshopper Warblers,48 Whitethroats, 29 Lesser Whitethroats, 15 Blackcaps, 6 Garden Warblers,11 Chiffchaffs and 20 Willow Warblers.Other birds included 4 Whinchats, 1 Wheatear, 5 Redstarts, 6 Pied and 5 Spotted Flycatchers, a Marsh Harrier, Hobby and an Osprey moving South at 09:50.JRC 15th A seawatch between 6:40-7:30 produced the following (all moving north): Teal 1, Arctic Skua 2, Common Tern 27, Sandwich Tern 8, Oystercatcher 4, Little Ringed Plover 1 and a Marsh Harrier flying out to sea. One Harbour Porpoise was also seen. On the clifftop the following birds were noted: Willow Warbler 16, Whitethroat 10, Lesser Whitethroat 7, Grasshopper Warbler 1, Wheatear 1, Swallow 22, Garden Warbler 1, Spotted Flycatcher 1, Swift 1, Reed Warbler 1, Chiffchaff 2 and Pied Flycatcher 1.
14th In the area today: Greenshank 1, Redstart 1, Whinchat 2, Pied Flycatcher 3, Reed Warbler 3, Blackcap 3, Lesser Whitethroat 25, Whitethroat 68, Chiffchaff 6, Willow Warbler 27 and best of all: Treecreeper 2

8th In a seawatch by Gerald there were 3 Common Scoters, singles of Redshank, Balearic Shearwater, Arctic Skua and Black Tern and 28 Common Terns. Feeding offshore were 75 Gannets, 80 Sandwich Terns and a Harbour Porpoise. Phil, Brendan and Jack concentrated on migrants around the area and found 2 Reed Warblers, 4 Sedge Warblers, 1 Grasshopper Warbler, 28 Lesser Whitethroats, 54 Whitethroats, 52 Willow Warblers and 3 Chiffchaffs.

7th An interesting seawatch with birds moving down channel from 07:30-11:00 in a light SW with drizzle produced 15 Scoter, 3 Teal, 4 Whimbrel, 23 Grey Plover, 4 Bonxies (1 up), 3 Arctic Skuas (1 up), 43 Sandwich and 314 Common Terns. Also feeding offshore were 50+ Gannets, a Shag and a Grey Seal.

In the area was a Reed Warbler, 5 Lesser Whitethroats, 32 Whitethroats and 31 Willow Warblers. RNH, PJC, BAR, JRC. 6th A beautiful warm sunny day with singles of Hobby, Wheatear and Blackcap, 11 Lesser Whitethroats, 31 Whitethroats and 32 Willow Warblers.JR,PJC,JRC. 5th 3 Wheatears. PJC 3rd Similar numbers of migrants today with 3 Wheatear, a Reed Warbler and Blackcap, 4 Lesser Whitethroats, 16 Whitethroats, 6 Chiffchaffs and 14 Willow Warblers. Also around area was a Yellow Wagtail, Hobby, Common Buzzard, 4 Coal Tits and 43 Carrion Crows in the big field. PJC 2nd A reasonable arrival of migrants on a NNW including 3 Wheatears, singles of Black Redstart, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler and Grasshopper Warbler (singing), and 8 Lesser Whitethroats, 18 Whitethroats, 16 Willow Warblers. Also in area 2 Bullfinches and a Crossbill. PJC 1st There were less birds today but we still had 39 Willow Warblers, 22 Whitethroats,12 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Grasshopper Warblers and a Sedge Warbler which was new for the year. An early Wheatear sat on the Freedown fence and c.600 Swifts and a Hobby flew south-west as a front moved up the Channel. BAR,TM,PJC,JRC. .
