August 28th Reasonable numbers of migrants in the area included 3 Turtle Doves, 14 Yellow Wagtails, 3 Tree Pipits, 3 Whinchats, 3 Reed Warblers, 45 Whitethroats, 18 Lesser Whitethroats, Barred Warbler and single Pied and Spotted Flycatcher. Whilst searching at Hope Point this weasel gave better views than the Barred Warbler.
27th Less birds today with 5 Reed Warblers, Grasshopper Warbler, 16 Whitethroats, 17 Lesser Whitethroats, Garden Warbler, Barred Warbler, 3 Willow Warblers, Chiffchaff, Pied Flycatcher, Common Redstart and Wheatear. Several raptors came in off the sea during the morning 2 Hobby, 2 Marsh Harriers and an Osprey. 26th After yesterday, today seemed a bit of an anti-climax although there were good numbers of hirundines moving, 32 Sand Martins, 360 House Martins and 1170 Swallows. Also 2646 Common Swifts moved south-west with a rain front. Other birds in tthe area included 39 Whitethroats, 22 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Garden Warblers, 7 Blackcaps, 4 Reed Warblers, 19 Willow Warblers, 2 Chiffchaffs, 19 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Redstarts, and singles of Wheatear, Pied Flycatcher, Tree Pipit, Hobby and Marsh Harrier. 25th
24th Today there were good numbers of grounded migrants and between the rain showers over 120 warblers were found. Whitethroat 53, Lesser Whitethroat 35, Garden Warbler 9, Blackcap 11, Willow Warbler 14, Chiffchaff 6 and a Reed Warbler. Also in the area were singles of Cuckoo, Wheatear, Whinchat, Redstart and Great Spotted Woodpecker. 23rd Today the Barred Warbler, found on the cliff-top north of the Monument, made up for the lack of birds in the area
22nd Migrants in the area were 2 Whinchats, 5 Wheatears, 1 Common Redstart, 1 Cuckoo, 26 Whitethroats, 18 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Blackcaps, 8 Willow Warblers and 1 Chiffchaff. 20th Good numbers of birds moving south-west with 122 Common Swifts, 68 Sand Martins, 70 House Martins, 75 Swallows, 52 Yellow Wagtails and a Golden Plover. At sea there were 10 Arctic Skuas, 3 Pomarine Skuas and a Bonxie going north. Moving south were 30 Common Terns, 39 Sandwich Terns, 7 Whimbrel and single Little Stint and Turnstone. Bird of the day was a Balearic Shearwater flying down channel at 11.50hrs. During the afternoon two more Balearic Shearwaters flew south and a Long-tailed Skua flew north. 19th Less migrants today with 31 Yellow Wagtails, 6 Reed Warblers, 1 Garden Warbler, 22 Whitethroats, 11 Lesser Whitethroats and single Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Turtle Dove. Also a Clouded Yellow Butterfly at Hope Point. 18th A reasonable number of migrants in the area included 17 Yellow Wagtails, 4 Wheatears, 44 Whitethroats, 8 Lesser Whitethroats, 1 Reed Warbler,4 Willow Warblers.and a Chiffchaff. Also a small passage of 31 Common Swifts moving south-west. 17th A Quail was flushed off the path by the Freedown, unfortunately dissappearing into the wheat field. 7th Overnight rain did not bring the expected fall of migrants and only 13 Whitethroats, 3 Lesser Whitethroats and 2 Willow Warblers were present in the Paddock 6th Less movement today with only 8 Willow Warblers, 26 Whitethroats, 4 Lesser Whitethroats and singles of Blackcap, Reed Warbler and Turtle Dove. At sea there were 66 Common Scoters moving south and 2 Harbour Porpoises in the Bay. 5th First migration of the Autumn included 21 Willow Warblers, 36 Whitethroats, 6 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Reed Warblers and an early Pied Flycatcher. Also had a Clouded Yellow and White-letter Hairstreak Butterfly
1st An early morning seawatch produced very little apart from 57 Common Terns going south and an Arctic Skua going north
