January Total number of species for the year 52 18th Richard and I spent an hour seawatching in the Bay and had 54 Red-throated Divers going north and a Black-throated Diver south as well as 400+ Common Gulls offshore. In the area we were joined by Phil and we added 7 new species to the year list. At Kingsdown undercliff we had 4 Rock Pipits and at least 5 Seals offshore, 3 Common and 2 Grey. Later Tony had a Marsh Harrier over the Farm. Jack C.

15th We took a walk in the first sunshine for many a day and had two new birds for the year, Shag and Peregrine, plus two Firecrests. Jack C. 9th Blimey its cold. 2nd On a beautiful sunny morning a walk around the area produced another seven species for the year......... of note was a Woodcock and 150 Skylarks in the fields. Jack C. 1st Phil, Nigel and I met at the 'Bock' for an hour or so and got our New Year list off to a flier with 36 species. On the sea there were 20+ Divers and 50+ Gannets feeding offshore, whilst 1500 Common Gulls flew north and in the trees at the bottom of the cliffs were 3 Firecrests. Birding stopped when an amazing blizzard swept downchannel and left everywhere covered in an inch of slushy snow. Jack C. |
