Swallowtail - Phil Chantler

The last days of July were dominated by the insects on the cliff-top. From 20th to the end of the month there were vast numbers of migrant Silver Y moths and Painted Lady butterflies.

On 23rd a Clouded Yellow butterfly was seen at the Monument and on 24th and 25th a Swallowtail was on the cliff-top.

At Langdon another Swallowtail was found on 27th and the next day there was a Grayling in the same area, this is the first record of this butterfly away from its normal site in Kent for 20years.
