December 27th In the Bay were 25 Red-throated Divers,81 Auks, 3 male Eiders and a Harbour Porpoise. At Otty Bottom 4 Whooper Swans flew south-west, these were new birds for the year and brought our 2006 total to 191, the best total since we started watching the site. 23rd A very cold morning's seawatch produced 181 Red-throated Divers,541 Guillemots, 10 Razorbills and 23 Great Crested Grebes, all feeding offshore, whilst a Great Skua chased the local Kittiwakes. 19th On the cliff-top we had 3 Stonechats, a Chiffchaff and on the sea 5 Eiders, 4 of which were males that looked fantastic in their brilliant plumage in the late afternoon sun. 18th In the big field 3 Brent Geese were feeding on the winter wheat and on the cliff-top was a Black Redstart and 3 Stonechats. In the stubble fields were 50 Linnets, 48 Skylarks and our largest count for many years of 26 Yellowhammers, if only farmers would leave some fields uncultivated a little longer what a difference it would make to our bird population. The 5 Woodlarks were in the usual place and in the Bay on the rocks were 600+ Common Gulls. 17th Around the gardens were 3 Firecrests, 2 Goldcrests and a male Blackcap. 4th Only 2 Twite and 2 Stonechat in the area. |
