During the month the Water level rose from 200’ 6” (12’ 9” below)

HIGHLIGHTS OF JANUARY 2006

Goldeneye female seen on the 31st.
Smew female seen on the 29th.
Red-breasted Merganser   male seen on the 10th.
Water Rail    one seen swimming 30 yards on the 31st.
Mediterrenean Gull     adult seen on the 22nd, 23rd and 30th.

Brent Goose      1 seen on the 11th.
Buzzard   1 seen on the 5th, 8th and the 27th.
Lesser Spotted Woodpecker 1 seen on the 5th and also on the 6th.
Skylark 1 seen on the 18th.

During the month the Water Company filled the Reservoir - unlike the state of so many Reservoirs in the South East.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH

White-fronted Goose 9 seen on the 1st and 12 on the 2nd.
Pintail  
a pair seen on most days between the 11th    and the 24th.
Red Kite 1 on the 1st.
Marsh Harrier    
2 seen on the 22nd and another 2 on the    29th.
Little Ringed Plover 1 on the 22nd.
Little Stint 1 on the 19th
Dunlin singles on the 19th and the 29th
Woodcock 1 seen on the 23rd
Black-tailed Godwit 1 on the 1st
Curlew   1 heard on the 29th
Little Gull  1 on the 28th
Sandwich Tern   1 on the 26th
Sand Martin    1 or 2 seen daily from the 25th
Swallow       1 on the 25th and 2 on the 29th
Chiffchaff    seen or heard daily from the 21st with a peak of  9  on  the 28th.
Redpoll    singles on the 3rd and the 26th.
Ringed Teal     1 on the 29th
Buzzard  
although not a new bird for the year, on the 29th 6 were seen together over Winkhurst Wood and 4 were seen later.
