HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH

Little Egret present all month with a peak number of 16
Egyptian Geese 2 present all month
Mandarin present all month with a peak number of 30 on the 8th.
Honey Buzzard 1 seen on the 10th with another flying South on the 29th.
Marsh Harrier 1 seen on the 6th.
Osprey 1 seen flying South on the 14th and another on the 29th.
Oystercatcher 1 seen on the 3rd.
Avocet 1 seen on the 25th.
Ringed Plover single birds seen on the 10th and 13th with 2 on the 16th.
Dunlin 1 seen on the 2nd, 2 on the 5th and 2juveniles on the 13th.
Snipe 1 seen on the 4th and 2 on both the 6th and the 31st.
Black-tailed Godwit 2 juveniles seen on the 14th.
Bar-tailed Godwit 22 seen flying South on the 3rd.
Greenshank 1 seen on the 10th and another on the 17th.
Wood Sandpiper an immature bird seen, mostly on theWest Bank of the Rerervoir between the 4th and the 11th.
Mediterranean Gull an adult seen on the 12th.
Arctic Tern 1 seen on the 9th.
Little Tern 2 seen on the 24th.
Black Tern 2 adults seen on the 3rd, 5 on the 17th. and a juvenile on the 19th.
Nightjar 1 heard 'churring' near the Dam at 14.15 on the 26th.  If accepted this will be only the second record for Bough Beech.
Sand Martin seen all month with a peak number of 4 on the 1st.
Swallow seen on 7 days during the month with a peak number of 50 on the 24th
House Martin seen on 8 days with a peak number of 150 on the 24th.
Yellow Wagtail 2 seen on the 16th and 20th with 1 present from the 26th to the 29th.
Redstart a male seen on the 30th.
Wheatear 2 seen on the 18th and 29th.
Spotted Flycatcher a family party of up to 9 birds seen near the Oast between the 6th and the 18th.
Crossbill 20 seen on the 20th and 1 on the 30th.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH

Winter Visitors September saw the return of some of the usual winter visitors with 2 Redwings on the 27th, 3 Redpolls on the 28th and a peak number of 40 Siskins on the 28th.
Barnacle Goose One seen on the 28th.
Brent Goose One seen on the 15th
Pintail One seen on the 27th
Marsh Harrier One seen on the 24th
Osprey Two were seen on the 7th and another on the 15th, all heading South to their winter quarters in Africa
Peregrine One seen on 8 days during the month
Ringed Plover One seen on the 16th.
Little Stint Two juveniles seen on the 26th with one staying unyil the following day
GREY PHALAROPE A juvenile seen on the North Lake on the afternoon of the 11th. This is only the third ever sighting of this species at Bough Beech with the previous records being in 1971-72 and1975.  Please see photograph above.
Little Gull Four seen on the 3rd
Arctic Tern Up to four seen during the month mostly juveniles
Black Tern There were frequent sightings of a juvenile bird.
Tawny Owl One heard calling on the 7th.
Wheatear One seen on the 21st
[Black Swan] One seen on the 14th.  This being probably an escapee from Chartwell.
Common Scoter A male seen on the 27th.
