HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH

Little Egret Seen all month with a peak number of 8 on the 27th.
Black Stork An adult bird seen on the 4th.  If accepted this will be a new bird for the Reservoir.
Mandarin Up to 25 seen all month.
Ruddy Duck A male seen on the 25th.
Honey Buzzard One seen flying South at 14.50 on the 31st.
Sparrowhawk Seen frequently with a peak number of 6 on the 18th.
Buzzard Up to 4 seen regularly.
Peregrine A female seen on the 28th and another(unsexed) on the 30th.
Sanderling There was a report of 1 on the Dam at the South end of the Reservoir on the 31st.
Black-tailed Godwit Two seen from the 19th to the 22nd and a single bird on the 24th.
Whimbrel One seen on the 7th.
Curlew Two seen on the 5th.
Green Sandpiper Up to 9 seen all month.
Common Tern Peak numbers were 45 on the 27th. At lkeast 14 juveniles fledged.
Arctic Tern An adult seen on the 20th.
Black Tern An adult seen on the 20th.
Spotted Flycatcher One seen on the 27th near the Winkhurst Green tennis courts.
Yellow Wagtail One seen on the 12th.

Nightingale

Single birds reported on the 14th and also on the 24th.

Little Egret Up to 7 seen daily
Great White Egret One seen from 12.00 to 14.10 on the 17th before being flushed by over enthusiastic bird watchers. If accepted this, together with the one seen in May will be the sixth and seventh record for Bough Beech.
Barnacle Geese A flock of 10 seen on the 31st.
Wigeon Up to 9 seen from the 22nd.
Gadwall There was a peak number of 46 on the 31st. This is some 2 months earlie than this sort of numbers are usually see.
Pintail One seen on the 13th.
Garganey One seen on the 23rd.
Shoveller Peak numbers of 22 seen on the 22nd and 31st.
Marsh Harrier One seen on the 23rd, 28th and 29th.
Buzzard Up to 6 seen almost daily.
Osprey One seen on the 22nd and 24th.
Peregrine One or two immaturew birds all month.
Oystercatcher One seen on the 4th.
Ringed Plover Seen on 7 days with a peak number of 11 on the 22nd.
Golden Plover One seen on the 22nd.
Knot Two seen on the 16th.
Ruff One seen on the 23rd.
Snipe Six seen flying over on the 9th and 1 on the 22nd.
Black-tailed Godwit Two seen on the 12th and 1 on the 16th.
Curlew Five seen on the 23rd.
Redshank One or two on 4 days in the month.
Wood Sandpiper One seen on the 23rd.
Turnstone Four seen on the 22nd.
Arctic Skua One seen on the 22nd. If accepted this will be the sixth record for Bough Beech.
Mediterrean Gull One seen on the 24th
Little Gull One seen on the 22nd.
Common Tern The peak number was 30 on the 4th and 6th.
Arctic Tern Two seen on the 21st and 22nd, with 1 on the 26th.
Black Tern Five seen on the 21st, four on the 22nd and two on the 23rd.
White-winged Black Tern One seen on the 21st and 22nd. If accepted this will be the fourth record for Bough Beech.
Cuckoo A juvenile was seen on the 11th
Tawny Owl One was heard on the 22nd.
Hirundine Peak numbers were 150 Sand Martins, 60 Swallows and 200 House Martins.
Yellow Wagtail Up to 4 seen on several dates.
Wheatear One seen on the 10th.
Chiffchaff An exceptional peak number of 30 were counted on the 31st.
Spotted Flycatcher One seen on the 27th.

The Long-billed Dowitcher was also a new bird for the Reservoir.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MONTH

Red-crested Pochard A female was seen on the 13th, 14th and 15th
Hen Harrier One was seen on the 12th
Avocet One was seen on the 24th
Golden Plover Three seen flying SW on the 4th.
Little Stint One seen on the 30th in close proximity to the Pectoral Sandpiper in the channel from the Culvert under the road and within easy viewing distance from the Causeway.
Pectoral Sandpiper A juvenile was seen daily from the 21st to the end of the month.
Long-billed Dowitcher A juvenile which arrived on the afternoon of the 29th was well watched that afternoon and the following day as it fed by the water's edge immediately below the Causeway.  This is a new bird for Bough Beech.
Little Gull Three seen on the 13th and a winter-0plumage adult on the afternoon of the 30th.
Arctic Tern Juveniles seen on 13 days in the month including two for the period 23rd to 30th.
Black Tern Two juveniles seen on the 25th
Turtle Dove A late juvenile seen on the 4th
Barn Owl One seen near the Oast on the 22nd.
Whinchat One seen on the 6th
Wheatear Single birds seen on the 7th, 17th and 25th.
Redwing The first sighting of autumn was of 5 on the 28th
Coal Tit The first records since March were of two on the 17th and one on the 25th.
Hawfinch One was heard flying over on the 19th.
