Bird Report - What's in it?
The
Kent Bird Report contains a summary of all
birds seen in Kent in the year. There is an account for
each species, with the county status of that species and the pattern of
occurrences in that year.
Some species are under threat and require special attention for conservation - known as "Red Data" birds. The accounts describe which birds are under threat and why. There are also the number of sightings in the county for all rare species. The first and last recorded dates for the migrant birds that spend summer or winter in the county are in a table following these accounts, to show the extremes of arrivals and departures. Interesting findings from ringed birds or those re-trapped in Kent highlight the migrational nature of many of the birds that pass through Kent.
The second half of the report contains articles written by knowledgeable birdwatchers on many topics about birds in Kent. For more information on the articles that have been written, click here. All this information is collated from the records sent in by birdwatchers to the Recorder or Area recorders. All the contributors are acknowledged in the report. Finally, the report (and this website!) shows how to send in your records and how these, and those received over the years, have contributed to the full list of over 400 species seen in Kent.
