Indoor Meetings Programme 2007 - 2008 The KOS runs a programme of Indoor Meetings where speakers give illustrated talks about many aspects of ornithology. PLEASE NOTE THE NEW VENUE: Meetings are now held at the GROVE GREEN COMMUNITY HALL, GROVE GREEN, MAIDSTONE, which is adjacent to Tesco's Supermarket in Grovewood Drive, Grove Green. It is open from 7.15pm for a 7.45pm start.

Thursday 11th October 2007 "Looking for Wildlife in Canada" Peter and Pauline Heathcote Our speakers will look at the the Autumn migration, covering the provinces from coast to coast across Canada. Birds are the main theme, but Canada's wealth of animals, flowers and scenery will also be pictured. Not to be missed. "Journeys around Mt. Kenya" John Wyatt We visit Kenya, a wildlife paradise with almost 1100 recorded species, and where it is possible to see more birds in one day than anywhere else in the world. This talk will cover the birds and other wildlife around Mt. Kenya, and also the adjacent Rift Valley. "The Birds of Bharatpur" Tim Loseby A short travelogue of the region south-east of Delhi, taking in the Taj Mahal and the abandoned Mogul city of Fatehpur Sikri, and culminating in a birding bonanza at the Bharatpur reserve in Rajasthan - one of the best birdwatching sites in the world. Thursday 10th January 2008 KOS Quiz Night A variety of questions covering the avifauna of the world. There will be prizes! "200 Years of Britain's Breeding Birds" Bob Scott This talk covers the fascinating changes in the breeding populations of Britain's birds which have occurred between the years 1800 and 2000. The reasons for these variations are examined and projections made for the future. Climate change concerns make this subject of particular interest to all birdwatchers. "The Fascinating Challenges of Wader Identification" Don Taylor Our President, author of the latest - and outstanding - book on Waders, will cover bird identification in general, with specific examples from waders, and include information on such aspects as moult, topography and behaviour. This talk will be of interest to both experienced and new birdwatchers. AGM - Followed by Members' Talks Three short talks (about 20 minutes each) by members have been offered.
