Oare Marshes Latest Sightings (February)

February 25th

2 Eider on the Swale well east of the reserve, Cetti's warbler calling near the car park, 3 Stonechats, 2 Bearded Reedlings, 20+ Pintails on the East Flood.  West Flood almost completely covered in ice.

February 20th

Injured adult Glaucous Gull on the East Flood until dusk at least.

At least 16 wildfowlers on the reserve boundary - last day of the shooting season!!

February 16th

the adult Glaucous Gull was feeding on a drake Pintal close to the road late in the afternoon. Its left foot appeared to be incased in a clam-like object but it wasn't clear whether this was what it was or some foreign object, picked up on a rubbish tip perhaps. Nine Ruff came into roost.

February 13th

Injured adult Glaucous Gull on the East Flood again in the afternoon, 2 Ruff, 48 Black-tailed Godwits, 51 Grey Plover, c500 Golden Plover towards dusk, Stonechat, several Rock Pipits

February 11th

Early am.  Cetti's Warbler calling near the sea wall hide, 41 Ruff on the East Flood (departing not long after dawn), also 41 Pintail, 47 Avocets at the mouth of Faversham Creek, lone Brent Goose on the West Flood, Water Rail, Marsh Harrier displaying overhead, 13 Golden Plover.  100+ Black-tailed Godwits at high tide during the middle of the day.

February 10th

25 Pintail, single Ruddy Duck, 2-4 Bearded Reedlings, single Water Pipit near the car park
