Oare Marshes Latest Sightings June 2006
June 30th More wader arrivals. At least 6 Ruff and 300 Black-tailed Godwits plus 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Little Ringed Plover and the escapee Bar-headed Goose on the East Flood. (A Swandale) June 29th 2 Hobby, 5 Ruff, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Little Ringed Plover (D & C Hird) June 28th 3 Ruff in partial breeding plumage & 2 Green Sandpipers. Still 2 Wigeon and the escapee Bar-headed Goose on the East Flood. (A Swandale) Hobby, 14 Avocets, 4 Ruff, 3 Whimbrel on Swale/flying over (David Newman) June 27th Return migration for waders is well underway. Black-tailed Godwits have increase to 123, also 2 Green Sandpipers and a Ruff in nearly full breeding plumage today. Broods of 3 Ruddy Ducks, 6 Shoveler, 7 Pochard and 6 Tufted Duck on the East Flood. (A Swandale) June 19th 2 Spoonbills, an adult and an immature, feeding on the East Flood before flying off to the north at 09:05, Bar-headed Goose, 1 Black-tailed Godwit (A Swandale) Spotted Redshank reported June 18th Spoonbill on the east Flood and 3-5 in the air over the reserve, Bar-headed Goose (Doug Bentall) June 17th Several broods of ducklings on the East Flood: shoveler 2 of 5 & 6 young, gadwall 2 both with 2, pochard 1 with a single duckling (Ian Bradshaw) June 16th 2 Spoonbills about 200m west of the road (adult or near-adult and an immature, both unringed) this afternoon Escapee Bar-headed Goose and single drake Garganey on the East Flood, Hobby hawking for dragonflies in front of the west hide, Sandwich Tern on the Swale (A Swandale) June 12th 2 drake Garganey, 2 drake Wigeon, Hobby, broods of 6 young Shoveler and 2 Pochard on the East Flood, 1 Cetti's Warbler (A Swandale) 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 common Buzzards seen from the reserve circling over Harty Hill (Murray Wright) June 11th On the East Flood: a Spoonbill with coloured rings (red & yellow left leg, yellow right leg and letters "EZ"), 13 Little Egrets, 2 drake Wigeon, drake Garganey, 1 Little Ringed Plover (Mike Stevens) June 10th 1 Bar-headed Goose with Greylags, 2 drake Wigeon, 2 drake Garganey, pair of Ruddy Ducks, 4 Avocets, 5 Little Egrets, Bearded Reedlings (John Bartlett) June 9th Garganey and Wigeon still present, Barn Owl hunting on the reserve until 0800 (Jim Bloor) June 7th Drake Garganey and Wigeon (2 of each) on the East Flood, Little Owl near west side (A Swandale) June 5th Bar-headed Goose (escapee) with Greylags (Steve Short) June 2nd Drake Garganey, 1 Whimbrel, 77+ Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Mediterranean Gulls flying over (John Bartlett) 2 Ospreys and a Common Buzzard reported to the west of the reserve June 1st Dead unringed adult or near-adult Spoonbill with a fractured left tibia found dead in Faversham Creek. Collision with overhead power lines is suspected. |
