Guidelines for submitting photographs.

The Photo Gallery has changed its format and we will try to incorporate the very best photographs of all species photographed in Kent.

Details of the forthcoming changes to the KOS website can be found by clicking here.

We are looking for good quality photos of birds taken in Kent and any rarity shots from years gone by. If you have what you consider to be purely a record shot of a past rarity where no other photos exist, then by definition it's the best shot so we'd love to see it! If there are already images on the website of a particular bird then please only send us yours if you believe they are better than any already on the site. Also please submit your images if they show a particular feature which aids in the identification process or shows the bird in an interesting pose.

New Photo Gallery

1.  'Login' (KOS membership required)

2.  In the left hand side click 'Add Item'

3.  Under 'File', browse and select your photograph. Prior to this ensure your photo is about 500 - 700 pixels across and in landscape or square mode. Photos  to be considered for the 'Homepage' must be in landscape (normally 3 x 2 aspect). In portrait mode or too big, they probably will not fit the page without scrolling etc., also keep them about 100kbs.  Ensure the file name is the specie name only (lower case), do not include image numbers etc. as this be uploaded in the title box.

4.  After uploading the photo, fill in the 'Caption' box in exactly the same format and order as previous captions, ie. site, date (eg. 2nd March 2010) and your name.

5.  Then in the box below at the bottom of the page, click 'Add Items'

7.  A new page then appears 'Upload Complete'.  To go back to the main page click on 'KOS Photogallery' in the top left of the page.

8.   To keep the 'Gallery' uniform please follow the above instructions otherwise photos may be deleted.

If you have any problems please send all photos, correctly resized etc., via email to both Mike Gould and Gavin Coultrip by clicking here.

Generally we will not use photos of birds on the nest, their eggs or nestlings. Nor will we publish photos of scarce breeding birds in suitable habitat where we deem publication of such photos could jeopardise their success.

All pictures will be fully credited and usual copyright laws apply. If you have your own website and would like us to add it to our links page then please let us know.

Obviously publication of photographs on the website does not constitute acceptance by the committees deemed appropriate.
