Ian Rendall

Ian was born in 1967 in Aberdeen, Scotland and he moved to Whitstable in September 2003. He is a keen and active bird-ringer since gaining his licence in 1986 and conducted a five-year project on breeding swallows for the BTO. He has also spent a year as assistant warden on Bardsey Island, North Wales in 1993 and worked as the tern warden at Forvie NNR, Aberdeenshire for three summers from 2000-2002.

Ian was largely self-taught as an artist, until he went on to successfully complete an HND in wildlife illustration at Carmarthenshire College of Technology and Art in 1996. Since then, he has undertaken a variety of work including: completing illustrations for scientific papersfor the zoology department of the University of Aberdeen, conducting workshops in drawing and painting, designing interpretation boards and producing vignettes for local wildlife reports. Ian’s current focus is predominantly private commission work and producing paintings for exhibitions and galleries. He recently completed illustrating ‘Seabird Populations of Britain and Ireland’ published by Helm, Exhibited at the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art 2004 and held his successful first solo exhibition at the Horsbridge Arts and Community Centre, Whitstable in September 2004.
