KOS Conservation and Surveys Committee meeting

Wednesday 17th January 2007, 7.30 pm at Tyland Barn

1. Matters arising from previous meeting

 

Discussion of South Blean Survey

Local Wildlife Sites System. The presentation by RM was postponed until the next meeting.

BTO Little Ringed Plover Survey.   TH presented a summary of past and possible current breeding sites and likely volunteers to check those sites in 2007 breeding season

2  2006/7 Surveys

 

A   Raptors     Kestrel. RC confirmed that there would be a summary of his past work in Kent in the next KBR. In addition a paper had been accepted for publication in British Birds summarising his views on the likely national population.

 

Common Buzzard    RC said survey-work continued. Likely that there were 200+ pairs now in the county.

 

B Woodland Bird Survey    Disappointing response only 6 returns.

 

C   Dartford Warbler/Woodlark Survey    Only Woodlark site found was at Tudeley Woods.

 

D  Herons  OS reported 288 nests, lowest total since 1998 drought.

 

3 BTO Atlas Work 2008-2011 

Some discussion on how survey would be organised and possible links to C & S Committee.
