About Us

Objectives

The Editorial and Records Sub-Committee has responsibility for helping to fulfil all four of the Society's aims:

  • to study and record all aspects of the avifauna of Kent
  • to co-operate with national ornithological and other bodies in scientific ornithological enquiries
  • to promote increased interest in ornithology in Kent , and
  • to support conservation of bird life in the county.

It deals essentially with all matters relating to bird records, which involves:

  • collating and entering records of bird sightings in Kent onto the society's database
  • assessing descriptions of KOS rarities (see Rare birds to consider)
  • forwarding descriptions of nationally rare birds to the BBRC (British Birds Rarities Committee).
  • selecting records quarterly for publication in the KOS News
  • analysing records for the Kent Bird Report
  • preparing and publishing the annual Kent Bird Report
  • providing records to approved organisations for conservation purposes
  • submitting rare breeding bird records to the national Rare Breeding Bird Panel
  • providing scarce migrant records for analysis by individuals appointed by British Birds .
