| The
Top Kent Listers
This list has been compiled and is maintained by Geoff Burton. The totals are based upon lists submitted to Geoff by the individuals themselves and once submitted it is up to them to inform the list keeper of additions. The rules include: . Only accepted records of BBRC and KOS rarities are countable. . Records of Greater Flamingo, Ruddy Shelduck, Falcated Duck and Marbled Teal are not considered countable for the purposes of these totals. . The taxonomy followed is that used by the British Ornithologists Union Records Committee. . Where listers have seen the same number of species precedence is given on the basis of reaching that total first or if that is not known, on the basis of notifying the list keeper first. . Recent splits - Green-winged Teal, Yellow-legged Gull and Caspian Gull , Hooded Crow and Mealy Redpoll - are included. The latest armchair tick came with the news that the record of a Citrine Wagtail at Sandwich Bay in May 1990 has now been accepted by BBRC. So far, only nine have claimed this as an addition to their list. Unfortunately, the third Kent record, at Sandwich Bay in May 2009, photographed by Justine de Villeneuve, was not identified until after it had gone. If you wish to submit your Kent list for inclusion here, or notify the list keeper of additions to your list, then email Geoff Burton at geoff.burton@btinternet.com or phone Geoff on 01227 751514. Recent events The first half of 2011 has been a quiet one for Kent listers. Nine listers amassed a total of 15 additions from ten species. The quality of the birds can be guaged by the fact that only two of the ten species required a description for the BBRC (Squacco Heron and Collared Pratincole), two for the KOS (Red-rumped Swallow and Woodchat Shrike) and the rest required no description. On a positive note, we acquired a new member, Phil Parker, and we now have 93 lists of 300 or more (35 of 350 or more). However, I am sure that not all lists are as up-to-date as they should be and I would urge members to forward details of any additions that I might not be aware of. I am confident that the second half of the year will be an improvement!! Finally, the usual plea for new listers. There are many out there who would qualify. They just need a little help from their friends!
Totals based on information received up to 30 June 2011
The list is up-to-date to the extent that members have kept me informed.
