Elmley Marshes Access and Visiting

Opening times:

The reserve is open all year (excluding Tuesdays), with the exception of Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Opening hours are between 9:00am and 9:00pm (or dusk if earlier)

Admission for non-RSPB members:

Adult: £2.50, child: 50p, concession: £1.50, family ticket: £4.50

Access and car parking:

The reserve is sign-posted from the A249 c.1km past the old Kingsferry Bridge. Take the exit before the new bridge (signed to Iwade & Sheerness/Queenborough) and follow thw Sheppey signs to the reserve entrance. A track runs across the marsh for c.3km to the reserve car park at Kingshill Farm.

Note: If you miss the first slip road, carry on over the new bridge and at the 1st roundabout, follow the sign for Leysdown. Almost immediately there is another roundabout, where you should turn right (to M2/Sittingbourne) onto the old A249 and back-track to the entrance track.

Train: The nearest station is Swale, situated by the Kingsferry Bridge and accessed from Sittingbourne.

Bus: Available from Queenborough c.6.5km away.

Facilities:

Bird watching hides: There are 5 hides, with a 1.6km walk to the reach the first and a 10km walk to visit them all.

Toilets: Located in the car park, these are not adapted for disabled users.

Car park: Holds up to c.40 cars. Space for 1 coach.

Refreshments: None.

Information for disabled: Less able visitors are permitted to drive down to Wellmarsh hide. There is a parking area on the right hand side of the track. Please try and contact a member of the wardening staff on 01795 665969 to arrange disabled access prior to your visit. Both Wellmarsh and Southfleet hides are now "wheel chair friendly".
